Winter Break 2010/11 Assignment
Fahrenheit 451 Projects
Character Diary. Write a diary that one of the story’s main characters might have kept
before, during, or after the book’s events. Remember that the character’s thoughts, feelings, and reasons for his/her actions are very important in a diary. Create the diary in a format that the character would use. Would it be in a book, bound with a cover? Would it be in a computer file? Would in be in a series of emails that he/she wrote to himself/herself? Would it be scraps of paper stuffed in an envelope or shoe box? The diary must have a minimum of six entries. It is important to write as if you were the character. When I read this, I should hear your character talking, not you!!!
Build a miniature setting of a scene in the book. You may build this in a shoebox or on a
piece of cardboard. Make sure all important elements are incorporated. Include a one paragraph written explanation of the book.
Make a comic strip of some of the scenes in the book. You must include at least 6 scenes
and label each with a caption, describing the scene in a little more detail. Pictures and words.

Make a Power Point Presentation. Explain what you learned from the book. Make at least
6 slides that will teach the class what you have learned by reading this book. Include text and graphics.
Create a Board Game. Use the characters, setting, plot, theme, and other story elements
to make a game board. Model the game after one of your favorites. It can be a whole complete game, or a portion of a game. If it helps you, think of this project as making a miniature version of a game you might already play. If you need a template, see me, and I will provide you with one or visit: http://jc-schools.net/tutorials/game/gameboard-complete.doc for one you can print.
Your Choice. If you have an additional idea of how to present the book you have completed for your Independent Reading Project, than please feel free to create your own project guidelines. You MUST first approve the project with me, so we can both be sure it meets the guidelines and expectations of these presentations.
